Frequently Asked Questions

Buying an original painting online is a lovely thing, but it is natural to have a few questions first. Here are the ones I am asked most. If yours is not here, get in touch and I will happily help.

About the art

Are your paintings originals?

Yes. Every painting is an original and one-of-a-kind, painted by hand, not a reproduction. Our Lithographs & Prints collection holds original vintage prints such as woodcuts and lithographs, and each listing says clearly what the piece is. Once a piece finds a home, it is gone.

Where do your paintings come from?

Most of what I find comes from Sweden, from auction houses and small dealers, with a smaller number from France, Denmark and the UK. You can browse them by origin in Swedish & Scandinavian Paintings and French & European Paintings. Everything is chosen by me and shipped from Suffolk.

What does "signed by unknown artist" mean?

It means the painting is signed, but I have not been able to trace the artist. I would always rather tell you that honestly than guess. Many of the most characterful pieces in the collection are by unknown hands.

What does "listed artist" mean?

A listed artist is one recorded in recognised art reference works or exhibition and auction records, for example Sweden's Svenskt konstnärslexikon. Where an artist is documented, the listing says so and includes a short note about them.

Do you authenticate or value paintings?

No. I describe each piece honestly from its signature, labels and any documentation, but I do not offer formal authentication or valuations.

Size, framing and condition

Are the paintings framed?

Most arrive in their original frames and are ready to hang. If a piece is unframed, the listing says so.

How do I read the dimensions?

Dimensions are the framed size in centimetres, width by height. As a guide, our small pieces are under 40cm on the longest side, medium pieces are 40 to 60cm and large pieces are over 60cm. To convert to inches, divide by 2.54. You can browse by small, medium and large.

What condition are the paintings in?

These are vintage pieces, so most show some signs of age, which I think is part of their charm. I note any chips, marks or wear in the listing and show them in the photos. If you would like more photos or detail, just ask.

Shipping and delivery

How much is shipping?

Shipping is free worldwide on every painting. I dispatch within one to two days using tracked UPS or tracked Royal Mail, and you will receive a tracking number.

How long does delivery take?

Once dispatched, allow around 2 to 3 business days in the UK, 5 to 10 in Europe and North America, 10 to 18 to Australia and New Zealand, and 10 to 21 for the rest of the world. Customs and busy periods can add time.

Will I pay import duties or taxes?

If you are outside the UK, your country may charge import duties, taxes or customs fees, and these are paid by the buyer. Full guidance by region is on our Shipping & Returns page. If you are unsure, it is worth checking with your local customs office before you buy.

How do you pack paintings?

Every piece is wrapped in tissue and bubble wrap, then shipped in a sized cardboard box marked fragile, using recycled packaging where I can.

Can you post on a particular date?

Yes. If you are away, or buying a gift, just send me a message and I will be more than happy to post on your preferred date.

Returns and payment

Can I return a painting?

Yes, please contact me within 14 days of delivery. The painting needs to come back in its original condition and packaging. Full details are on our Shipping & Returns page. If anything arrives damaged, please photograph it and the packaging and let me know within 48 hours.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes, you can pay in three interest-free instalments with Klarna or Shop Pay at checkout, subject to approval.

Do you sell gift cards?

Yes, our gift cards can be spent on any painting.

Can you help me find a particular painting?
