About the artist: Born in Solberga in the farmland of Skåne in 1892, Axel Hamborn spent a long career painting the Swedish landscape, from open countryside to harbours and the coast. He trained in Stockholm at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts between 1920 and 1926, where he won the Royal Medal, and he went on to work as a printmaker and draughtsman as well as a painter. Today his work is held by the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, among other collections. He died in 1987.
