ROOFTOPS

ROOFTOPS

An atmospheric mid century view across the rooftops of a small town on a quiet, overcast day. Pitched roofs  jostle together with yellow houses and tall chimneys. Behind it all, soft green hills roll down to a thin band of blue sea beneath a wide silvery sky. The paint is laid on in broad, deliberate blocks of muted colour, which gives the whole scene a lovely chalky texture.

Oil on canvas in original gold frame.

Signed Ellis Wallin and dated 1936.

Frame dimensions 57 x 66 cm
